Operation Give-Back Inc. was formed by long time coach and golf instructor Tony Giovino after he observed severely wounded war veterans learning to golf without limbs, sight, and other injuries while he was instructing in Myrtle Beach. Moved by this experience, Tony came back to PA determined to provide assistance to our brave military, veterans and their families in Central PA. He also provided golf instruction to veterans with prosthetics.
Tony partnered with his son Jeff. They proposed the concept to officers at Fort Indiantown Gap and the project was accepted and launched. The first year Jeff donated a one-of-a-kind Evil Knievel custom built chopper motorcycle to Operation Give-Back Inc.. They partnered with the Guardian Knights Motorcycle Club to raffle the motorcycle. The raffle, along with a golf tournament, raised $40,000 and allowed OGB to make donations to the Pennsylvania Veterans Foundation, Pa Wounded Warriors, Guard-to-Guard as well as other causes and organizations.
The second and third year the Jared Odrick Golf Classic became the main source of fund raising efforts. Tony along with his son Bill, the head football coach, coached Jared at Lebanon High School. Jared went on to star at Penn State as a defensive lineman and was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of The Year. In 2009, Jared was the first round draft pick of the Miami Dolphins where he is currently in his fifth year starting at defensive tackle. Jared was always committed to giving back to the local community. He recruited numerous members of the NFL, the Dolphins and Penn State to participate in the Golf Classic that is hosted by Iron Valley Golf Course in Lebanon, PA .
The 2014 event was very successful due to Steve Rose of Rose Metal Systems from Carlisle PA becoming our Corporate Sponsor. Other major sponsors were Walmart, Sheetz, Wells Fargo, Evian, and the Texas Roadhouse in Palmyra PA. There were 3 Hole-in-one cars donated by Turner Kia, MaGuire Ford and Freedom Chrysler Dodge. Additionally, there were many great auction and raffle items and a fantastic Cajun inspired meal following the golf tournament. Our goal for the 2015 Jared Odrick Golf Classic on June 27th, 2015 is to raise additional funds by selling all of the tee and green sponsorships, identify a sponsor for the meal and beverages, increase the auction and raffle items and to once again have a full field to play golf.
